The social science database WAO – World Affairs Online contains references to monographs and anthologies as well as to many journal articles and electronic publications. The search encompasses a WAO section with publications on sub-Saharan Africa including the collection of the GIGA Africa Library up to 1985.

The online catalogue (OPAC) of the African Studies Centre, Leiden/The Netherlands, makes accessible about 70,000 books, government reports, 2,000 serials and African Newspapers and 80,000 journal articles (many with abstracts).

The Nordic Africa Institute library in Uppsala/Sweden has a focus on contemporary Africa and the social sciences. The collection comprises approximately 65.000 titles and some other materials (e.g. official publications). Over 570 current journals are kept and articles of some journal titles not listed elsewhere are indexed.

The Library of the Department of Anthropology and African Studies (Institut für Ethnologie und Afrikastudien - IFEAS) at Mainz University comprises approximately 50.000 volumes and a lot of audio-visual materials. The attached "Jahn Library for African Literatures" is one of the most comprehensive research facility for African literatures in Europe, acquiring works written in all languages spoken on the African continent by African authors (including children’s literature and comics).

The digitized card catalogue lists books that were acquired before 1986. It is not possible to single out an Africa Section. The catalogue cards have been scanned. Researchable are author and title, as well as the text of the card catalogue as a whole.

The database "Online Contents-Special Collections (OLC-SSG) sub-Saharan Africa" makes accessible tables of content of 170 journals from the publication year 1993 onward. The titles of the articles are from the Swets Database Online Contents.
