Abstract: The Art & Life in Africa website, hosted by the University of Iowa Museum of Art (UIMA), is a freely accessible educational resource that is the product of the collaborative efforts of more than fifty scholars, technicians, collectors and institutions around the world. The website offers topic essays like "Art from the Ijo Spirit World" by Martha G. Anderson, "Weaving in Southern Nigeria", by Lisa Aronson, "Yoruba Gelede Masquerade" by Henry J. Drewal or "Nature, Spirits and Arts in Burkina Faso" by Christopher D. Roy.It has chapters on everyday endeavor, key moments in life, divination, and death for example. Art and field photographs and videos are further useful resources. Finally, a large bibliography and introductory information about countries and ethnic groups are offered. The focus is on West Africa, however, countries in Southern and Eastern Africa are covered as well. [editors ilissAfrica]
