Abstract: Development Studies is a relatively small discipline within the Department of Political and Economic Studies at Helsinki University. The main functions of the discipline are academic research, teaching based on it, and public service (information and applied research). The research and teaching curriculum strive for interdisciplinarity, with a strong orientation towards a combination of basic and applied approaches. Historically, much of the discipline's research has been concentrated on Eastern and Southern Africa. Nowadays research increasingly covers Asia, Middle East and Latin America as well.
Development Studies offers courses and degrees from beginners to the doctoral level. [according to site editor's information]
