Abstract: Site about Thomas Sankara. Captain Thomas Isidore Noël Sankara (December 21, 1949 – October 15, 1987) was the leader of Burkina Faso (formerly known as Upper Volta) from 1983 to his homicide in 1987. With a potent combination of personal charisma (he was often compared to Che Guevara) and a social organisation with some participatory democracy, his government undertook major initiatives to fight corruption and improve education, agriculture, and the status of women.
