The office has three main divisions:
Economic Statistics: This division focuses on providing robust economic indicators with the primary objectives of providing data for development planning, monitoring progress towards achieving the MDGs and Poverty Reduction, meeting the macroeconomic data requirements of multilateral agencies such as ECOWAS, IMF, World Bank, ILO, UNSD, etc.
Demographic Social and Regional Statistics: This division covers statistical data on population issues: education, health, gender and other social statistics. It provides timely and accurate data for policy planning and formulation for the country and it helps to design appropriate strategies to monitor the impact of some indicators on the labour force, poverty-reduction and economic growth within the country.
A Geographical Information System (GIS): This is a computer-based information system that captures, stores, manipulates, analyses and displays spatially referenced and associated tabular attributed data. Geographic Information System has taken advantage of rapid development in micro processing technology to address the special challenges of storing and analysing spatial data.
Data Processing: The division is primarily responsible for the processing of all censuses and surveys undertaken by Statistics Sierra Leone and also providing technical support in relation to information Technology and managing the Institution’s website. The division currently has three sections that are working in collaboration to achieving the goals of the division. The sections include:
a) Computer Programming and Data Management
b) Systems Management and Networking
