The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) is a political foundation, closely associated with the Christian Democratic Union of Germany (CDU). Its basic principles are Freedom, justice and solidarity. In Namiba KAS helps to consolidate the democratic constitution and the political and socio-economic participation of disadvantaged groups (women) in Namibia through socio-political educational and training programmes. A focal point of the Foundation’s work is the analysis of regional integration in Southern Africa. In this context advice is also offered to the relevant decision-makers. Women’s Action for Development (WAD) was created by the KAS as a self-initiated measure in 1994. Since May 2001 WAD is an independent organization. WAD aims at enabling the women of Namibia to improve their living conditions through self-help activities and to assert their rights in society. A further task of the Windhoek office is to support Angola's democratic development. With this goal in mind the foundation cooperates with the Ombudsman of Angola, as well as the Instituto de Desenvolvimento e Democracia (IDD).
